Fire Safety - You Decide
A project to involve the public in community fire safety
Project overview
We usually only start to think about fire safety when we see tragic events on the news and then it gets lost in our memory until the next tragedy occurs but should we take a more active interest and raise concerns if we see something that does not look right?
Our legislation these days puts more responsibility on owners and those in charge (Responsible Person) to make sure that fire safety is installed and maintained to the correct standard but with the number of inspections by the authorities being dramaticlally reduced it can be years before a building is inspected and found to be below the required standard or a fire occurs when it can be too late.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to check if a building is safe before we enter so more responsibility has to be placed on the individual to identify and report any problems that they see such as wedged open/damaged fire resisting doors, missing fire extinguishers, blocked fire exits and poor information.
This project is not about making everyone an "inspecting officer" but just to help the individual identify and report fire safety problems.
Fire Resisting Doors 1
How many of us pass through a wedged/held open fire door and don't take any action?
Fire Resisting Doors 2
How many of us don't bother to report fire doors that won't close effectively?
Smoke Detectors
Who bothers to report missing/damaged smoke and fire detectors?
Locked Exit
How many people don't bother to report locked fire exits?
A little effort by all of us could prevent the next tragedy.
This project does not receive any funding from any organisation and is solely funded by myself, so no vested interests.
